Agricultural Policy: Determinant of the Regional Rural Development and EU Perspectives of the SEE

Agricultural Policy Forum 2018 was organized by the the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in SEE and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina on 16 – 18 October 2018 in Jahorina, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
APF 2018 gathered more than 160 representatives of relevant public authorities, civil and private sector, from 15 countries/territories of the SEE and beyond. It addressed the reform of the EU Common Agricultural Policy and the trends in the EU agri-food trade policies and their impact on the SEE. Diversification of economic activities in rural areas was elaborated as a factor for rural development, rural depopulation and migration. Further on, it presented for discussion and wider endorsement policy recommendations coming out of respective policy assessments in SEE conducted by the SWG regional expert advisory working groups, more concretely: agricultural policy developments, land market and small farms’ access to land, application of the agri-environment policy and conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources in agriculture.
APF 2018 concluded with Jahorina Agenda 2018, set of policy recommendations on important topics for the agricultural and rural development of the SEE region, which will be presented in the 12th Annual Working Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture on 15 November 2018 in Struga, Macedonia.
